Welcome! Since you’ve come to this page, you’re probably curious about Community Engaged Scholarship (CES). Maybe you are asking, "what is it?" but, briefly put, CES is the real collaboration between a university partner and a community partner where both are meaningfully involved in each step of a project from its inception to its conclusion and the project’s goals/outcomes meet the community’s needs as defined by them.
You might wonder whether every project that involves the community is Community Engaged Scholarship. The answer is no. There’s a continuum of involvement from less to more. At CSUSM, projects that fall into the last two columns on the right are considered to be Community Engaged Scholarship.
Are you asking yourself, "where do I start?" ‘What are the steps of a Community Engaged Scholarship project?’ This matrix walks you through all the steps.
One of the ‘go to’ organizations to learn a lot more is Community-Campus Partnerships for Health. Their website is a treasure trove of useful information, and it is not just for academics in the health professions, it’s for everyone interested in community engaged scholarship.
And here are links to an index of all articles in each of these seven journals with links to a PDF of every article.
